Traveling Shows introduces Fun Cards.
SolutionsOne and Eric Woods created a solution that uses SQL Server
and AirLinc running on a dedicated Windows 2000 Server workstation
serving up to 75 Symbol PDT6842s, five wireless laptops connected
via a 2MB wireless backbone, and a customer service laptop wired to
the server. The server has up to two access points wired to it via
a hub, with up to two wireless access points strategically placed
at the carnival. The wireless solution is a challenging one since the
carnival picks up and moves every almost weekly. Smart placement of
the wired and wireless access points and specialized antennas provides
coverage of the entire carnival. The application completely eliminates
the need for paper tickets and enables the customer to utilize the
fun card in ways the were not possible with paper tickets. Customers
can now use tickets for rides, games, and concession stands. In other
words the card can be used as either tickets or cash. If the customer
doesn’t use the entire value purchased on the card, they can retain
their cards and bring it back the next time the carnival comes to
town and the card will still work. Cards can be recharged and used
over and over again. The application also provides a number of management
reports as well as a graphical interface that provides live (to-the-minute)
information about each of the stations (rides, games, and concession
stands) that are in operation during any given event. A complete set
of historical reports are also available.
